The AugmentX Initiative is one of the first Flanders Make infrastructure projects. In this project, the partnering institutions Flanders Make, VUB, and UGent have collaborated to create an environment dedicated to deepening knowledge in the sustainability of labor. In this sense, we address a need for research institutions. Additionally, through our industry-oriented services, we offer companies the opportunity to investigate the applicability of augmentation technologies such as cobots, exoskeletons, smart handlers, and more. Through our advanced ergonomic and biomechanical assessment capabilities, we provide deep insights into the physical loading that tasks entail.
The AugmentX Initiative is active at company sites to measure and demonstrate.
Additionally, we have an industrial lab in Kortrijk and a research lab in Brussels.
We rely on several key individuals, including Tom Turcksin, Ilias El Makrini, Taner Incirci, Erard de Lamine, Jan Lamote, and Stijn Huysentruyt, to maintain, develop, and exploit AugmentX.
The list of contributors is extensive. It includes many master's students who have devoted themselves to the initiative through internships or master's projects. We also express our gratitude to PhD researchers such as Menthy de Nayer and Haibing Tian, who have contributed to the development of important components.
Finally, we express our deepest gratitude to Prof. Tom Verstraten, Prof. Bram Vanderborght and Prof. Dirk Lefeber. Without them, this initiative would never have seen the light of day.
