Exoskeleton Services

General format

  • AugmentX starts off with a presentation on exoskeletons. This covers the technology, classification, usage, evolution, characterization, and assessment possibilities.
  •  Prior to the session, AugmentX invites participants to submit video material of ergonomically challenging processes occurring at their workplace. If such material is provided, the lab reviews it and identifies situations where exoskeletons can offer support.
  • AugmentX also provides help with putting on and adjusting the exoskeletons to ensure the best user experience.
  • Finally, it is time to try out the exoskeletons. AugmentX always brings some lifting weights.

Master Class

Pilot Project

Master Class

In our master class, up to ten participants are welcome to spend half a day at the AugmentX Research Lab in Brussels.  After an introduction, participants are invited to try out the exoskeletons of their choosing. One of the main advantages of this service is that it offers the lowest price per exoskeleton.  We ensure that at least 13 passive and two active exoskeletons are available.

Workshop

Pilot Project

Master Class

The workshop follows the usual format as described below.  In contrast to the master class, we organize this at the company site. This allows participants to directly try out the exoskeletons in their actual environment on the contemplated tasks. For a workshop, we can bring up to eight exoskeletons. We advise limiting the number of participants to ten. A workshop typically requires half a day.  Often, a workshop is combined with an acceptance assessment, providing management with greater insights into how individuals perceive and accept exoskeletons as part of their daily routine.

Pilot Project

Pilot Project

Pilot Project

Research has demonstrated that interest in exoskeletons tends to vary during the initial use phase, following Gartner's hype cycle.  Companies aiming to assess the acceptance of a particular exoskeleton for a specific task are interested in the long-term effects and level of acceptance.  A pilot project starts with the general format. Subsequently, one or more exoskeletons are rented for a longer period. AugmentX advises two weeks for exo suits and one month for exoskeletons.  Optionally, pilot projects can be combined with the 'implementation plan reporting' option. This provides insights into how acceptance evolved throughout the pilot project.

Assessment Options

  • Acceptance Assessment:  Through a survey based on the work of Dr. S. Elprama, AugmentX assesses the general acceptance of the technology.   The qualitative assessment is presented in a PowerPoint presentation and serves as a guide for further steps.
  • Pilot Project Reporting:  This allows for capturing how interest evolves throughout the pilot project.  The extended duration of a pilot project helps identify and address integration issues that interfere with the intended use. These problems can take many forms (environmental, organizational, etc.).  The reporting builds upon data collected throughout the pilot project.  An extensive survey at the start and end of the project, along with a short daily questionnaire, visualizes how acceptance evolved throughout the project and identifies possible future steps.
  • Quantitative Assessment:  When exoskeletons are in use, AugmentX can assist in determining the ideal assistance level.  Forces and movements are recorded using advanced measurement instruments.  The lab can optimize for minimal energy or minimal torque and identify when over-assistance occurs.   After analysis, we determine the optimal assistance level that works across the entire range of actions. An example of such a use case can be found here.  Due to the specifics, a personalized approach is required.   A comprehensive proposal is developed in collaboration with the client.
